He is mighty to save!
With all the Rob Bell stuff giving me a headache, I thought it would be good to bring a good presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ into the mix.

Rob Bell goes on MSNBC Town Hall to promote his book and got a host who asked some tough questions that Rob doesn’t seem to be able to answer. I think it is easy to take questions from friendlies and be consistent, but when someone comes with more difficult questions it gets a lot harder.
I don’t know how someone can read the bible with any level of honesty and come up with this type of doctrine. Why would Jesus say the things He said about sin, death, and judgement if there were no such thing?
A comparison of two ideas. The first is the “love” idea of God – presented by Rob Bell in this video. The other is the love balanced with righteousnesses, holiness, justice and truth – presented by J.C. Ryle.
They present 2 different Gods. They show us 2 different beings to worship. In my estimation these two views of God are not compatible. Shall we worship the one that appeals to our flesh, or the one presented to us in scripture?
They are preaching up the devil’s old, favorite doctrine!
(J.C. Ryle)
There is such a place as Hell. Let no one deceive you with vain words. What people do not like–they try hard not to believe. When the Lord Jesus Christ comes to judge the world, He will punish all who are not His disciples with a fearful punishment!
All who are found unrepentant and unbelieving;
all who have clung to sin;
all who have set their affections on worldly things;
all who are without Christ–
all such shall come to a dreadful end! “Anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life–was thrown into the Lake of Fire!” Revelation 20:15
1) I know that some people do not believe that there is any Hell at all. They think it impossible, that there can be such a place. They call it inconsistent with the mercy of God. They say that it is too awful an idea to be really true. The devil of course, rejoices in the views of such people. They help his kingdom mightily. They are preaching up the devil’s old, favorite doctrine, “You shall not surely die!” Genesis 3:4
2) I know furthermore, that some do not believe that Hell is eternal! They tell us it is incredible, that a compassionate God will punish people forever. They imagine that He will surely open the prison doors of Hell at last. This also is a mighty help to the devil’s cause.
3) I know also that some believe that there is a Hell–but never allow that anybody is going there! They imagine that . . .
all people are good,
all are sincere,
all mean well, and
all, they hope, will go to Heaven when they die!
Alas! what a common delusion is this!
If I never spoke of Hell–I would think I had kept back something that was profitable, and would look on myself as an accomplice of the devil.
Reader, I beseech you, in all tender affection–beware of false views of the subject on which I have been dwelling. Beware of new and strange doctrines about Hell and the eternity of punishment. Beware of manufacturing a god of your own:
a god who is all mercy–but not just;
a god who is all love–but not holy;
a god who has a Heaven for everybody–but a Hell for none;
a god who will make no distinction between godly and the ungodly in eternity.
Such a god is an idol of your own imagination! It is as truly an idol–as any snake or crocodile in an Egyptian temple! The hands of your own imagination and sentimentality have made it! It is not the God of the Bible–and beside the God of the Bible, there is no God at all.
I was told of a web site dedicated to Judah Smith and when I visited the site I was left speechless. Visit http://www.judahsmith.net, read the “About judahsmith.net” area then read the excerpt below and ponder what camp that web site falls into. I don’t think I will comment any further, you are free to make up your own mind.
(John MacDuff, “The Footsteps of Jesus” 1856)
“Be clothed with humility.” 1 Peter 5:5
“True humility,” said one, “is a lovely ornament; it is the only suitable dress for a saved sinner!” O let us seek then to be clothed in this robe–that we may be brought to lie low at the footstool of our Maker and Redeemer.
In the saints of old, this grace of humility appeared with marked prominence–and they are patterns for our imitation.
There was Abraham, the father of the faithful and the friend of God. How great was his humility! how profound his self-abasement! “I have ventured to speak to the Lord–even though I am nothing but dust and ashes!” He was filled with a consciousness of his absolute nothingness in the presence of the Great Eternal.
This was the promo just before Judah was speaking at some “special” event…
I received an spam email from Bishop Eddie L. Long inviting me to a conference and other ways their church makes money…but this really caught my eye. I can’t believe how much Eastern thinking has infected these preachers…they have been watching too much Oprah.

The universe has laws. There are a lot of “new age” philosophies these days, but as believers of Jesus Christ, we are given the divine opportunity to co-create (our reality) with God. The things you believe and expect are the things you will attract. That is why it’s important to guard your thoughts and make sure they align with The Word. Ask yourself: What do I believe and expect of myself and others? Do I believe in and expect the promises of God? These answers will dictate what you attract. We all write our own life story. It’s up to you to decide if it will be a horror, drama, mystery, fiction or inspirational book. Your choice.
I love how he even talks about “new age” philosophies, then goes on to promote on as Christian. Jesus talked about the “blind leading the blind”.
We’ll see if it takes another year for a post, but things have been busy.
I have been keeping an eye on John MacArthur’s blog lately because he is doing a series on the false teachings of Prosperity/Word of Faith movement. His latest post talked about “Positive Confession” and the “Law of Faith”. If you believe in “positive confession” or the “law of faith” I suggest you listen to the audio blog because Dr. MacArthur clearly lays out the error and implication of these teachings (Idolatry).
Listen to the audio blog Faith and Confession, Prosperity-Style
If you question if The City Church teaches such garbage, perhaps you should listen to the sermon by Pastor Jude Fouquier titled “Laws of Faith“. It is sad that people believe this garbage and teach it to so many people (for their itching ears). Not to mention, look at the list of some of the prominent speakers at their church (Hagin, Oral Roberts, Marylin Hickey, TD Jakes).
These teachings are false, idolatrous and dangerous.
I was directed to John MacArthur’s blog where he has been discussing the prosperity gospel, and the absolute fraud it is. I thought I would link to the articles he has posted. If you follow the prosperity preachers, you might want to check these out. It is a 5 part series (so far), and he shows how this deception is not new. Even Paul Crouch’s son has gone onto the blog to leave comments. I may not agree with John MacArthur on all points of Theology, but we definitely agree on this one.
From Grace Gems:
“There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen, feasting lavishly every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table.” Luke 16:19-21
However some professors may seem to differ from the world–they are not easily distinguished upon many other points; particularly at their meals. The people of the world can scarcely exceed them in the cost, care, profusion, and variety with which their tables are covered.
Perhaps there is no one circumstance in the history of our Savior so little laid to heart, so generally overlooked, by those who acknowledge him as their Master and their Lord–as that state of poverty to which He submitted, while upon earth. He had no home. He did not even have money to pay His tax. He was hungry when He went to the fig-tree. He wrought no miracle solely for His own relief; but He felt for the necessitous, and miraculously fed them by thousands; not with dainties, which would have been equally easy to Him–but, finding a few loaves and fish among them, He satisfied their needs with plain food. Yes, after His resurrection, when He had taken possession of all power and authority both in heaven and in earth–He condescended to dine with His disciples upon broiled fish and bread, which He likewise provided for them.
Alas! the rich followers of this poor Savior have more reason to be ashamed of . . .
their gorgeous apparel,
their fine houses,
their elegant furniture, and
their sumptuous feastings
–than to value themselves upon such trifles!
They are unavoidable appendages to people in some situations; but, I believe, those who have drank deeply into our Lord’s spirit, account them rather burdens than benefits!
We must be watchful of that sinful, shameful conformity to the world, which spreads like a gangrene, which is the reproach of the gospel, and threatens the utter extinction of vital religion in multitudes who profess it.
“In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him–Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire!” Luke 16:23-24
