Does The City Church Teach Word Of Faith?

January 7th, 2010

I have been keeping an eye on John MacArthur’s blog lately because he is doing a series on the false teachings of Prosperity/Word of Faith movement.  His latest post talked about “Positive Confession” and the “Law of Faith”.  If you believe in “positive confession” or the “law of faith” I suggest you listen to the audio blog because Dr. MacArthur clearly lays out the error and implication of these teachings (Idolatry).

Listen to the audio blog Faith and Confession, Prosperity-Style

If you question if  The City Church teaches such garbage, perhaps you should listen to the sermon by Pastor Jude Fouquier titled “Laws of Faith“.  It is sad that people believe this garbage and teach it to so many people (for their itching ears).  Not to mention, look at the list of some of the prominent speakers at their church (Hagin, Oral Roberts, Marylin Hickey, TD Jakes).

These teachings are false, idolatrous and dangerous.

Yes Mark, I agree…these false teachings (prosperity and WOF) are directly out of the mouth of wolves that devour the flock,.

Have you guys heard of Ken Wilde? Can’t believe he actually said that man is sovereign and that we must give God permission to act.

Yes, the unbalanced un-Biblical view of a prevenient God who is always standing by anticipating our actions so He can then move. This worldview is dangereous because it inadvertently leaves you in doubt because you never know if you’ve responded to God enough as you ought. The real gospel flips this on its head because Christ has already done all. Rom 8 “it is God who justifies, who is he that condemns?”

I wish people would leave their churches on Sunday mornings with this on the forefront of their minds, not man-centered doctrines.

    Hi BG,

I decided to listen to some of the message, and it was a whopper Word of Faith message.

    Some of his points were:

    1. The bible is not a religious document, but a government document (something like that)
    2. We can speak things into existence. He used the example of oil, that he believes we don’t need to worry about lack of oil because we can create more if we understood the power of the tongue. Basically he insinuated that if we took the creative power we have with words we could speak more oil into existence.
    3. We are sovereign over the earth, so God can do nothing unless invited by us.

It is clear to me that this theology lowers God from the Sovereign of the universe, and elevates us as sovereign. Kind of reminds me of how the Devil attempted to temp Jesus with the kingdoms of this world. Doesn’t Wilde know Jesus refused them? His whole message was for Christians to attempt to take the over the kingdoms of this world. It sounds like the Devil is still trying that ploy on Christians…but unfortunately it works now.

That is crazy. Christians today have no discernment. We are always trying to make the Bible fit into our box. Wilde views Scripture and Christianity through his political lens. Wilde is U.S. government minded so tries to make God a giant politician, Obama is socialist minded and tries to make Jesus a liberation theologian, Olsteen is self-improvement minded and tries to make Jesus a third base coach. I’d like to just see people make Jesus what Scripture actually says He is and what the apostles actualy say He is for once.

The real political position to have then is that Jesus will return soon and kill all the bad guys and redeem other bad guys into good guys by grace, and rule forever. And every politician must give an account to Him. It’s very simple actually.
