I guess, Christians were able to survive for 1,200 years without chapters and 1,500 years without verses so they are not all that important.

Interesting. I am in a Bible class on Acts at Northwest right now, and my professor was just emphasizing that point a few days ago. He argued that the book of Acts should be read straight through just like a short story; verses are helpful for reference, but they do not do justice to the flow of logic in the text.

I don't know exactly to think of this, but I can say there are many divisions of Christians who can more easily pick and choose the scriptures they want to emphasize to prove their pet doctrines by using the chapter/verse division of scripture. I guess, Christians were able to survive for 1,200 years without chapters and 1,500 years without verses so they are not all that important.

I tried to find a bible without the chapter and verses, but I had no luck. I would love to get one to see how it changes my comprehension of the text. I think there is some truth to the article.

Great article...good food for thought.

Princeton, I'm not sure what you are talking about.

God has allowed his word (the bible) to be re-arranged all these centuries without him interfering! or should i say messed up!

What are you waiting for? Is it going to take the audible voice of God coming down from heaven saying "Leave my book alone"?

I see what the author is saying and where he's coming from. Are we (saved Christians not led by the holy spirit?) God has allowed his word (the bible) to be re-arranged all these centuries without him interfering! or should i say messed up! I think there is a fine line between us looking for the truth intellectually and trusting (having faith), that the holy spirit show us which way to go. Do we pray more for answers or do we google more. How do we balance that out? again, reading the text has opened up my eyes on something that i've wondered about, but i also wonder how much time we should dwell on it!
Craig- God bless you.
